Drive Belt

Inspection
PROCEDURE
1. The alternator, power steering pump and air conditioning drive belts, which are sometimes simply called the "fan" belts, are located on the right side of the engine when facing forward. The condition and correct belt tension of the alternator drive belt greatly affect the operation of the entire engine. Due to constant loads, the belts stretch over time and their condition deteriorates. Therefore, the belts should be inspected periodically.
2. The number of belts installed on the vehicle depends on the engine type and vehicle equipment. One belt drives the alternator and the coolant water pump. If the vehicle is equipped with air conditioning and power steering, two additional belts are used to drive these components.

3. Остановите двигатель и, открыв капот, найдите ремни привода. Осмотрите, осветив

3. Stop the engine and, opening the hood, locate the drive belts. Inspect each belt using a flashlight. Check for separation of the rubber bonded layer on both sides of the belt core, cracks in the belt core at the belt edges, hardening of the core, separation or damage of individual rubber ribs, and damage to the entire ribbed surface of the belt (cracks, separation and wear of the ribs).
4. Also check for wear and glazing of the belt material, which causes a shiny appearance on the belt. The belt should be inspected on both sides, for which it must be twisted. If the belt surface is not accessible for inspection, its condition can be checked by touch. If any of the above defects are found, replace the belt.

5. Для проверки натяжения ремня рекомендуется следующий способ. Сильно нажмите

5. The following method is recommended for checking belt tension. Press firmly on the belt with your thumb approximately midway between the pulleys and check the belt deflection depth. Measure the belt deflection with a ruler; it should be approximately 6.0 mm when the distance between pulley centers is 170 to 280 mm, or approximately 13.0 mm when the distance between pulley centers is 300 to 400 mm.
