Checking the Brake Light

~1min read
  • Check the brake bulbs and replace them if necessary.

If the brake bulbs are in order, then check the brake light switch. The brake light switch is located on the pedal bracket above the brake pedal. When the brake pedal is depressed, a plunger extends out of the switch.

The switch contact closes and the brake lights come on.

  • Check the brake light switch. The switch is located in the footwell on the brake pedal bearing bracket.

  • Switch on the ignition.

  • Disconnect the connector from the brake light switch. Bridge the terminals of wire AR (sky blue/red) and wire RN (red/black) with a short auxiliary wire.

If the brake lights now come on, the brake light switch is defective; replace it.
