To prevent short-circuit and overload damage to the wiring and consumers in the electrical system, the individual circuits are protected by blade fuses. Fuses fitted with blade contacts are used, so conventional fuses can no longer be used.

The fuses are mainly located in a fuse and relay box in the instrument panel, to the left of the steering wheel.

  • Unscrew screw - a - using the ignition key or a suitable screwdriver.

  • Apply light pressure to the left-hand part of the cover in the direction of the arrow, to release the two side retaining lugs, and remove the cover.

  • The fuses - 1 - are located at the bottom of the relay board - 2 - and in a fuse holder - 3 - above the relay board.

  • Further fuses - 4 - and - 5 - are located in the engine compartment on the bulkhead, under a cover marked "FUSE". If necessary, unscrew the cover with a screw and remove it. There is also a fuse and relay box in front of the battery on the battery holder, see also page 15.

  • The fuses for the injection and ignition system are located under a cover in the engine compartment on the bulkhead (1.4/1.6 l engine) or behind or under the glove box, see page 94.

  • Always switch off the affected consumer before replacing a fuse.

  • A blown fuse can be recognized by its melted metal strip.

  • Pull out the defective fuse. A plastic fuse puller is located in the main fuse box for removing the fuses.

  • Insert a new fuse of the same rating.

    The rated current of the fuse is printed on the back of the handle. The fuse handle also has a color code, which also indicates the rated current.

  • If a newly inserted fuse blows again after a short time, the corresponding circuit must be checked.

  • Under no circumstances replace a fuse with wire or similar improvised material, as this can cause serious damage to the electrical system.

  • It is recommended to always carry a few spare fuses in the vehicle. Corresponding holders for storage are located in the main fuse box.

  • Hook the fuse box cover in at the bottom, fold it upward and snap it into place on the left, then secure it with the two Phillips screws.
