Checking the Heated Rear Window
With the rear window heater switched on, the area with the visible conductor tracks should be free of fogging or ice after some time.
In case of faults, first check the fuse in the fuse box.
If the fuse is in order, then check that the cable connectors on the left and right of the rear window are firmly seated, and clean off any corrosion if necessary.
Since the rear window is in the tailgate, check the power supply to the tailgate. To do this, open the tailgate. The power supply is provided by a wiring harness sealed with a rubber grommet.
Check the supply lines, the switch and the switching relay, see page 240.

If heating filaments are broken, a commercially available conductive silver paint can restore the connection. To do this, clean the damaged area with thinner or ethylene.
Mask off the break on both sides with adhesive tape and apply commercially available conductive silver paint with a small brush.
Let the paint dry for approx. 24 hours at +25 °C. A hot-air dryer may also be used. At +150 °C the paint dries in approx. 30 minutes.
