Theft Warning System
The Fiat Bravo/Brava theft warning system is activated with the radio remote control on the vehicle key.
The receiver is housed in the roof light.
The system only works when the ignition key is removed.
To switch on the theft warning system, press the button on the remote control. A "beep" tone is then sounded and at the same time the indicators flash once.
While the theft warning system is switched on, the red LED (light-emitting diode) on the instrument panel flashes.
To switch off the theft warning system, press the button on the remote control again. Two "beep" tones are sounded and the indicators flash twice.
The theft warning system can also be switched on with the siren deactivated. This means that if the alarm is triggered, only the indicators operate while the siren remains silent. To do this, press the remote control for more than 4 seconds: the system then sounds 5 "beep" tones.
Alarm triggeringWhen the theft warning system is switched on, the alarm is triggered if:
One of the doors, the bonnet or the tailgate is opened
The battery is disconnected, the supply cables are cut, or the ignition is switched on
A strong impact is applied to the vehicle
Something moves in the passenger compartment (for example, if a hand is inserted through an open window).
The last-mentioned interior monitoring function can be deactivated as follows:
Before switching on the system, use the ignition key as follows: insert key, turn key to STOP, turn key to MAR, turn key back to STOP.
Deactivation of the interior monitoring is confirmed by the warning LED lighting up for 2 seconds.
If the ignition key is subsequently turned back to MAR, the interior monitoring is reactivated.
Note: the key can be turned back to MAR for a maximum of 30 seconds without activating the interior monitoring. This function was built in so that windows that may not have been closed can be closed.
As soon as an alarm is triggered, two things happen:
The siren sounds in 3 cycles of 28 seconds each, with 6-second pauses, and the indicators flash for about 5 minutes.
Starting the engine is prevented by cutting off fuel injection and ignition.
At the end of the alarm state, the anti-theft alarm system resumes normal monitoring.
Cancelling alarm condition:Press the button on the remote control. If this is unsuccessful, the alarm can be stopped by switching off the system with the emergency key.
Switching off the theft warning system
If the remote control batteries are flat or the anti-theft alarm system is faulty, the system can be switched off with the so-called emergency key.
On the driver's side, unscrew and remove the lower trim panel under the instrument panel.
Pull the protective cap off the key switch.
Insert the emergency key and turn the lock to the "OFF" position. When deactivation is successful, the anti-theft alarm control unit emits an audible tone.
Pull out the key, slide the rubber cap on, and screw the trim panel back on.
To switch the system back on, turn the key to the "ON" position.
If the vehicle is not used for more than 1 month, the key must be set to OFF. If the battery is not sufficiently charged when the anti-theft system is switched on, an audible signal sounds (10 "beep" tones).
ProgrammingOn a new vehicle, the anti-theft alarm system and the codes of the 2 remote controls supplied with the vehicle (up to 8 on request) must be matched as follows:

Hold down the programming button on the remote control receiver with a pointed object (e.g. a ballpoint pen). The red LED flashes.
Keep the programming button pressed and, with a finger of the other hand, press the button on the remote control (on the key). For this, the key must be pointed at the receiver and be approx. 40 cm away.
The LED now stays on steadily: this means the signal has been stored. Both buttons can now be released.
Note: on a new vehicle, the programming procedure must be carried out on all existing remote controls.
Each transmitter has a sticker with a four-digit number (password) to prevent programming by unauthorised persons (protected programming).
After 256 activations of the anti-theft system, or earlier at the customer's request at Fiat by entering the password, the simple programming described above is permanently disabled.
The sticker must be removed after the vehicle is purchased and kept in a safe place. Any new remote control can only be programmed with the code number on the sticker. If the first remote control and the sticker with the code number are lost, the system only allows other remote controls to be programmed with the Fiat diagnostic tester.
This prevents unauthorised persons from assigning another remote control to the control unit.
Self-diagnosis of the theft warning systemIf, when the anti-theft system is switched on, a shorter "beep" follows the "beep" after one second, first check that the doors, bonnet and tailgate are closed. Then try switching the anti-theft system on again. If the above condition repeats, go to a Fiat workshop to rectify the fault.
If the alarm was triggered while the vehicle was unattended, the LED reports this after the system is switched off and also indicates the cause of triggering: 1 flash: right front door; 2 flashes: left front door; 3 flashes: right rear door; 4 flashes: left rear door; 5 flashes: motion sensors on the instrument panel (detect movement in the passenger compartment); 6 flashes: bonnet; 7 flashes: tailgate; 8 flashes: interference with the terminal 15 circuit (ignition on); 9 flashes: interference with the terminal 30 circuit (permanent positive); 10 flashes: at least three alarm causes; steady light: transmitter battery is flat.
Replacing the remote control batteriesIf the LED on the remote control itself does not light up when the button is pressed, or only lights up briefly once, the batteries must be replaced:
Open the plastic housing halves.
Insert the new batteries, observing the polarity shown.
Close the housing halves.
For environmental reasons, do not dispose of used batteries with household waste; take them to a hazardous waste collection point.
