Notes on maintenance-free battery

~1min read

The Bravo/Brava is equipped as standard with a maintenance-free battery. This battery rarely needs distilled water topped up during servicing; however, some maintenance points must still be observed.

  • Standard battery chargers can be used for charging. The charging current must not exceed 5 A; the charging voltage should be between 14 and 15 V.

A charging current that is too high over a prolonged period overcharges the battery and significantly reduces its service life.

  • Do not charge the battery with a fast charger.

  • Charge the battery outdoors or in well-ventilated rooms only.

  • If the electrolyte level is too low, for example after a prolonged stay in hot regions, top up with distilled water. See chapter "Maintenance".

  • If the vehicle is taken out of service for more than 6 weeks, remove the battery and store it fully charged. The most favorable storage temperature is between 0 °C and +27 °C. At these temperatures the battery has the lowest self-discharge rate.

Recharge the battery after 3 months at the latest, otherwise it will become unusable.

  • Clean the battery terminals regularly and coat them with petroleum jelly or terminal grease.

  • Do not use jump-start devices, as the battery would be briefly exposed to a very high current.
