Check windshield wiper motor

~1min read

The windshield wiper motor is located in the washer housing below the windshield. To check it, the respective cover and the water shield must be removed.

Checking wiper motor

First determine whether the wiper motor or the power supply is defective. To do this, proceed as follows:

  • Check the windshield wiper fuse, see page 247.

  • Disconnect the multiple plug for the wiper motor at the relay.

  • Using 2 auxiliary cables, apply voltage (+) and ground (-) from the vehicle battery to the wiper motor; see also wiring diagram no. 11. Connections on the wiper motor:

Hg - voltage for the first wiper speed and for the intermittent circuit.

Hn - the wiper motor is braked when switched off during the return stroke, so that it does not run past the park position.

H - voltage for the second wiper speed (shunt winding).

N - ground connection.

  • The windshield wiper motor must now run. If it does not, the motor is defective. Remove the wiper motor, see page 283.
