Immobilizer
The Bravo/Brava is fitted with an electronic immobiliser with transponder control. The immobiliser is activated by removing the key from the ignition lock.
The system prevents the engine from starting unless it is started with a correctly coded ignition key.
When the ignition is switched on, a transmitter (transponder) in the key head sends the identification code to the immobiliser control unit. The control unit is located behind the instrument panel, above the fuses.
The transmitter in the key head does not need a battery, as the power supply is provided wirelessly by the control unit.
If the engine cranks without starting and the immobiliser and engine management warning lights in the instrument cluster stay on continuously, the system is activated and the receiver at the ignition lock has not recognised the key code.
This may have the following causes:
Reading process obstructed by additional keys on the key ring,
Key code defective.
In this case, proceed as follows:
Remove additional keys from the key ring and repeat the starting procedure.
Repeat the starting procedure with another key belonging to the vehicle.
Carry out an emergency start. The emergency start code is entered either by pressing the accelerator pedal or with the Fiat diagnostic tester. The emergency start code is on the code card supplied with the vehicle keys.
Have the immobiliser system checked at an authorised workshop.
Read the 5-digit code from the code card. Example: 42173.
Switch on the ignition.
Press the accelerator pedal fully down and hold it. The fuel injection warning light comes on for 4 seconds, goes out briefly, then comes on again for 4 seconds.
When the warning light goes out, release the accelerator pedal.
The warning light then starts to flash. Count the flashes. As soon as the first digit of the code is reached, press and hold the accelerator pedal. Example: warning light flashes 4 times, then press the accelerator pedal down.
The warning light comes on for 4 seconds and then goes out. Now release the accelerator pedal and count the flashes for the second code digit. Example: warning light flashes 2 times, then press the accelerator pedal down.
Repeat this procedure 3 more times until the 5-digit code number has been entered. Example: enter the digits 1-7-3.
After the last digit has been entered, the warning light flashes for 4 seconds, indicating that the code has been accepted. The engine can now be started. Caution: do not turn the ignition key to STOP now, otherwise the code entry must be repeated.
If the warning light stays on continuously after code entry, the code has not been accepted by the control unit.
Turn the ignition key to STOP and repeat entry of the code number.
