Proper Driving Techniques
Never coast downhill in neutral. This is very dangerous. Always keep a gear engaged.
Avoid driving habits that require sudden braking, and do not keep your left foot resting on the brake pedal while driving. This leads to brake overheating and loss of braking effectiveness. On long downhill grades, use engine braking (including lower gears) to prevent brake overheating.
When downshifting, lightly brake the vehicle. This helps prevent excessive engine speed, which may damage the engine.
In strong crosswinds, reduce vehicle speed. This will improve vehicle handling.
Before engaging reverse gear, make sure the vehicle is completely stopped. Otherwise, you may damage the transmission. To move the lever to the reverse position, first depress the clutch pedal, move the lever to neutral, wait 3 seconds, then move the lever to the reverse position.
Exercise particular caution when driving on slippery roads, during braking, acceleration, and gear shifting. On slippery roads, a sudden change in vehicle speed may cause the wheels to lose traction with the road and result in loss of vehicle control.
If control of the vehicle is lost at high speeds, the risk of the vehicle rolling over increases significantly.
Loss of control often occurs when two or more wheels leave the roadway and the driver attempts to return the vehicle to the road.
If your vehicle leaves the roadway, avoid sharp steering inputs. Instead, reduce speed before carefully returning to the road.
