Do Not Recline or Lie Down

~1min read

To reduce the risk of injury and to ensure maximum effectiveness of the safety system, all occupants must sit upright and the front seatbacks must be in the most upright position while the vehicle is moving. The seat belt cannot provide the necessary protection if a passenger is lying on the rear seat or the front seatback is severely reclined.

Sitting with a reclined seatback or lying down while the vehicle is moving can be very dangerous. When the seatback is reclined, the seat belt cannot perform its function even if you are buckled up. The shoulder belt will be ineffective because it cannot hold your body. Instead, it will be positioned in front of you. In the event of a traffic accident, it will strike you, which may result in serious neck injuries or other consequences. The lap belt will also be ineffective. In a traffic accident, it may slide up onto your abdomen instead of the hip bones. This may cause serious internal injuries.

The seat belt provides maximum protection when the seatback is in a strictly upright position.
