Proper Driving Techniques

Do not move the selector from "N" or "P" to any other position
while the accelerator pedal is depressed.

Do not move the selector lever to the "P" position while the vehicle is moving.

Before moving the selector to the "P" position, make sure the vehicle has come to a complete stop.

Do not coast downhill in neutral. This is very dangerous. Always keep a gear engaged while the vehicle is moving.

Avoid a driving style with frequent hard braking, and do not keep your left foot on the brake pedal while driving. This leads to brake overheating and loss of braking efficiency.

On long downhill grades, use engine braking (including lower gears) to prevent brake overheating.

When shifting into a lower gear, lightly apply the brakes. Otherwise, the lower gear may not engage.

Always use the parking brake. Do not rely on moving the selector to the "P" position to prevent the vehicle from moving.

Exercise particular caution when driving on slippery roads during braking, acceleration, and gear shifting. On slippery roads, a sudden change in vehicle speed may cause the wheels to lose traction with the road and result in loss of vehicle control.

Turn on the overdrive switch for good fuel economy and smooth operation. If engine braking is needed in the "D" range, or if repeated shifting between 3rd and 4th gears is required when climbing a slight grade, it is recommended to turn off the overdrive switch. After that, turn the overdrive switch back on.

If control of the vehicle is lost at high speeds, the risk of the vehicle rolling over increases significantly.

Loss of control often occurs when two or more wheels leave the paved road surface and the driver attempts to return the vehicle to the road surface.
If your vehicle leaves the road surface, avoid sharp steering inputs. Instead, reduce vehicle speed before returning to the road.

When the overdrive switch is on, the transmission will automatically shift into second, third, and overdrive gears. When the overdrive switch is in the "OFF" position, overdrive will not engage. Under normal conditions, the selector should be in the "D" position and the overdrive switch should be on. If you need to accelerate rapidly, press the accelerator pedal fully. The transmission will automatically downshift depending on vehicle speed and load.
