Center Section of Instrument Panel

GENERAL INFORMATION

WARNING: A sensor that triggers the airbag is mounted under the center section. Observe precautions when performing work.

Do not check the airbag system with any test equipment. Before starting work, disconnect the battery negative cable, turn the ignition off, and wait at least 10 minutes.

Do not remove the inertia sensor located under the center section.

If the safety system warning lamp illuminates, have the vehicle inspected by an automotive service facility as soon as possible.

Removal and installation

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

2. Remove the plugs and remove the front section screws.

3. Move the seats forward and remove the rear section screws.

4. Remove the cover (left photo) and remove the lower center section screws (right photo).

5. On vehicles with a manual transmission, remove the shift lever boot.

6. On vehicles with an automatic transmission, remove the selector lever cover.

7. Move the section rearward, lift it carefully, and remove it from the parking brake lever.

8. Install the section in the reverse order of removal.
