Brake System

Filling the Master Cylinder Reservoir

~1min read

GENERAL INFORMATION.

Warning.

Do not use mineral-based brake fluids.

Do not use containers that have held mineral oils, mineral-based brake fluids or water. Mixing with mineral oil or fluid will cause swelling and failure of rubber seals. Water contamination

will lower the boiling point of the brake fluid and cause brake system failure during heavy braking.

Brake fluid containers must be

Store tightly closed and protect from dirt and water when opening. The brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir must be kept constantly

at the proper level. This ensures normal operation of the hydraulic drive and

prevents air and moisture from entering the system. However, do not overfill the reservoir,

since the brake fluid must be able to expand when heated by the heat generated in the brake units and radiated by the engine.

The reservoir is located on the master brake cylinder: under the hood, on the left, on the front bulkhead. Before opening the reservoir cap, wipe it thoroughly to remove

dirt. Open the cap and bring the brake fluid level up to the proper level, referring to

the mark on the outside of the reservoir. It is recommended to use Delco Supreme N11 brake fluid or an equivalent. Only brake fluid of

type "DOT 3" is permitted.
