Bleeding the Brake Hydraulic System
GENERAL INFORMATION.
Required equipment.
– SCANNER- scan tool
11..
Warning.
Before bleeding the system, the modulator pistons must be returned to the fully raised position of the
front and rear wheels. To do this, command
the modulators using the SCANNER-11 tool (F5 button). The modulator piston return operation
to the initial position cannot be performed if ECU fault codes are stored.
If current DTCs are present, first repair all faults
and clear the ECU memory of DTCs, then return the pistons to the initial position..
PROCEDURE.
1. Raise and securely support the front of the vehicle to lift
the front drive wheels..
2. Start the engine, engage a gear, and bring the engine speed to a level corresponding to a vehicle speed above 5
km/h. Run the engine in this mode for at least 10 s..
3. Check the "ABS" warning lamp. The lamp should
go out after approximately 3 s. If the "ABS" lamp stays on for more than 3 s, perform fault diagnosis using the SCANNER tool.
11. If the "ABS" lamp goes out and stays off, switch off the engine and repeat steps 2 and 3 once more..
4. Using the SCANNER-11 set to manual test mode, command the modulators to apply the brakes on all wheels.
5. Perform the brake hydraulic system bleeding procedure..
Warning.
Only brake fluid stored in a
clean, tightly sealed container may be used. Do not use brake fluid from
open containers, as the fluid is hygroscopic and may contain
a significant amount of dissolved water vapor. Do not use
DOT 5 (silicone-based) brake fluid.
