With the key in this position, you can check the vehicle warning lamps. This way, before starting the engine, make sure all vehicle systems are operating properly. As soon as the engine starts, the ignition key will return to this position and remain there while the engine is running.
If the engine is not running for a long time, do not leave the key in the ON position, as this will needlessly discharge the battery.
