Anti-lock brake system
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) prevents the wheels from locking during hard braking or when driving on uneven road surfaces. The ABS control module monitors the rotational speed of each wheel and regulates the brake fluid pressure in each wheel brake cylinder. In emergency situations or on slippery roads, this system improves vehicle control during braking.
While the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is operating, a slight pulsation may be felt in the brake pedal during braking. You may also hear a noise from the engine compartment while the vehicle is moving. These phenomena are normal and indicate that the ABS is operating correctly.
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) cannot prevent traffic accidents caused by improper or dangerous maneuvering. Although it helps improve vehicle control during emergency braking, always maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. Reduce vehicle speed in adverse driving conditions.
In the following cases, the braking distance of vehicles equipped with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) may be longer than that of vehicles without it:
– when driving on gravel roads and roads covered with snow;
– when driving with snow chains installed;
– when driving on roads with bumps, potholes, or other uneven surfaces, rough roads, or other roads in poor condition.
Reduce speed on such roads. Do not test the safety provided by a vehicle equipped with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) by cornering or driving at high speeds, as this may be dangerous for you and others.
