Power Steering Fluid Level Check
(every 4800 km [3000 miles] or every three months)
Unlike a conventional steering gear, a power-assisted steering system uses hydraulic fluid that must be replaced periodically.
On 4-cylinder models, the power steering pump fluid reservoir is located on the inner fender panel of the left front wheel well, i.e., in the left front corner of the engine compartment. On V6 models, the reservoir is mirror-positioned, i.e., located in the right front corner of the engine compartment.
To check the fluid level, set the front wheels in the straight-ahead position. The engine must be off and the power steering fluid must be cold.

The PAS reservoir walls on all models are made of translucent material, allowing the fluid level to be checked without removing the cap. Make sure the fluid level is always between the upper and lower marks on the reservoir.
If necessary, add fluid to the reservoir through the filler neck using a funnel. Use only the recommended type of hydraulic fluid.
If the fluid level must be adjusted regularly or frequently, check the power steering pump, steering rack housing, and all PAS hydraulic lines and their fittings for signs of leaks.
