Checking Manual Transmission Oil Level

(every 24,000 km [15,000 miles] or every 12 months)

PROCEDURE

1. The transaxle case is not equipped with a dipstick. The transmission fluid level in the transaxle is checked by removing the check/fill plug from the side wall of the transaxle case. Raise the vehicle and support it on stands. Locate the plug and thoroughly wipe the plug and the surrounding case surface with a clean rag. Remove the plug. The transmission fluid level should reach the lower edge of the check/fill hole; otherwise, adjust the level accordingly. If the vehicle is raised to access the transaxle case, make sure the support stands are securely positioned before getting under the vehicle.

The vehicle must be positioned strictly level.

2. If necessary, add the required amount of the specified fluid to the transaxle case through the same hole using a funnel. The level is considered correct when the fluid begins to flow out of the hole in a thin stream.

3. Reinstall the plug and tighten it securely. Perform a short road test, then check that there are no fluid leaks around the plug.
