Seat Belt Inspection

~1min read

(every 24,000 km [15,000 miles] or every 12 months)

PROCEDURE

1. Carefully inspect the seat belt components (webbing, buckles, latches, anchor points and guide loops) for signs of wear or damage.
2. When the ignition key is turned to the RUN or START position, the warning lamp on the instrument panel should illuminate. The warning buzzer also sounds. On vehicles with a passive system, the shoulder portion of the belt must be routed to the A-pillar of the vehicle body.
3. Check that the retractor locking mechanism operates correctly: the belts must lock reliably during sudden jerks, and must extend freely when pulled out slowly.
4. If defects or signs of malfunction are found, replace the faulty seat belt components.
