Idle Speed Inspection and Adjustment

~1min read

(every 48,000 km [30,000 miles] or 24 months)

INSPECTION
PROCEDURE

1. Idle speed is the engine speed with the accelerator pedal released. This is a critical parameter that determines both the overall operation of the engine and the proper functioning of its various subsystems.
2. Apply the parking brake and chock the wheels. Make sure the transmission is in Neutral (MT) or in "P" or "N" (AT).
3. Connect a hand-held tachometer in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

4. Отсоедините 2-контактный электрический разъем от электромагнитного клапана

4. Disconnect the 2-pin electrical connector from the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve (see accompanying illustration).

5. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature at 3000 rpm.
6. As soon as the cooling fan comes on, slowly reduce engine speed to idle. Make sure all accessories are switched off and the transmission is in Neutral (MT), or in the "P"/"N" position (AT).
7. Read the tachometer and compare the reading with the value shown on the VECI label or in the Specifications for this Section.

In case of discrepancy, the information on the VECI label takes precedence.

ADJUSTMENT

PROCEDURE

1. Before making the adjustment, make sure the cooling fan is off.

2. Если обороты холостого хода выходят за пределы допустимого диапазона, извлеките

2. If the idle speed is outside the permissible range, remove the plug (see accompanying illustration) and make the necessary correction by turning the adjustment screw with a screwdriver in the appropriate direction. Turn the screw in short steps (1/4 turn per step), checking the new engine speed each time.

3. Stop the engine and disconnect the tachometer. Restore the original connection of the EVAP solenoid valve.
