Brake System Inspection - Vacuum Booster

~1min read

PROCEDURE

1. Check the operation of the brake vacuum booster from the driver's seat.
2. With the brake pedal fully depressed, start the engine. The pedal should move down slightly further.
3. With the engine running, depress the brake pedal several times. The pedal travel should remain constant.
4. Depress the pedal, stop the engine and keep the pedal depressed for approximately 30 more seconds. During this time the pedal should neither sink nor rise.
5. Restart the engine, let it run for about one minute, then stop it again. Press the pedal firmly several times; the pedal travel should decrease with each pump.
6. If the above check gives a negative result, replace the brake vacuum booster (see Brakes chapter).
