The lighting systems of the Ford Mustang (VI Gen) are designed for maximum visibility and safety. Whether automatic headlights, high beam assist or individually adjustable ambient lighting, every detail is carefully considered. Fog lights, daytime running lights and delayed headlight switch-off are also part of the concept. This way, the Mustang not only drives powerfully but also anticipates its surroundings.

General Information

Condensation in Headlights and Lamps

Exterior lamps have vent openings to compensate for normal changes in air pressure.

Due to this design, condensation can occur. If humid air enters the headlights or lamps through the vent openings, condensation can form at low temperatures. Normal condensation can cause slight fogging on the inside of the lamp or headlight lens. This slight fogging disappears during normal operation through the vent openings.

In dry weather, the fogging may take up to 48 hours to disappear.

Examples of acceptable condensation are:

  • A thin film of fog (no water streaks, drip marks or large droplets)
  • A fine fog covering no more than 50% of the lens.

Examples of unacceptable condensation are:

  • Water collecting in the lamp
  • Water streaks, drip marks or large droplets on the inside of the lens

If you notice unacceptable condensation, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized dealer.

Operating the Lighting

A Off

B Parking lights, instrument panel lighting, license plate and tail lights

C Headlights

High beam

Push the lever forward to switch on the high beams.

Push the lever forward again or pull it toward you to switch off the high beams.

Headlight Flash

Pull the lever slightly toward you and release it to flash the headlights.

Automatic Headlight System

WARNING

The position of the automatic headlight switch may not turn on the headlights in all visibility conditions. For example, this is the case in fog during the day. Always make sure the headlights are set to AUTO or ON according to the visibility conditions.

Otherwise, accidents may occur.

When the light switch is in the automatic headlight position, the headlights switch on automatically in low ambient light or when the wipers are activated.

The following features, if equipped, are also activated when the light switch is in the automatic headlamp position and they are turned on in the information display.

  • Configurable Daytime Running Lamps
  • Automatic High Beam Control
  • Adaptive Headlamps

The headlamps remain on for a set time after the ignition is switched off. You can adjust the delay time using the information display buttons. See Information Displays.

Note: When the headlamps are in the automatic headlamp position, the high beams cannot be switched on until the low beams are activated by the automatic headlamp control.

Front Wiper-Activated Headlamps

The front wiper-activated headlamps turn on 10 seconds after the front wipers are switched on when the light switch is in the automatic headlamp position. They turn off approximately 60 seconds after the wipers are switched off.

The headlamps are not activated by the wipers in the following cases:

  • When using the fog wipe function
  • When the wipers run during windshield washing
  • When the wipers are in intermittent mode

Note: If automatic headlamps and the automatic wiper system are both switched on, the headlamps turn on automatically when the wipers run continuously.

Instrument Panel Dimmer

Note: Adjusting the Automatic Dimming setting in the information display disables manual dimming. See Information Displays.

Note: After disconnecting or discharging the battery, the instrument panel lighting automatically returns to maximum brightness.

Press repeatedly or hold until the desired level is reached.

Headlamp Delay Off

After switching off the ignition, you can turn on the headlamps by pulling the turn signal lever toward you.

A short tone sounds. With a door open, the headlamps switch off automatically after three minutes or 30 seconds after the last door is closed. This function can be cancelled by pulling the turn signal lever again or by switching on the ignition.

Daytime Running Lights

WARNING

The position of the automatic headlight switch may not turn on the headlights in all visibility conditions. For example, this is the case in fog during the day. Always make sure the headlights are set to AUTO or ON according to the visibility conditions.

Otherwise, an accident may occur.

To switch on the system: 1. Switch on the ignition.

2. Set the light switch to the OFF or AUTO position.

Fog Lights

Press the button to switch the front fog lamps on or off.

The front fog lamps can be switched on in all light switch positions except OFF.

Note: Use the fog lamps only in poor visibility, such as fog, snow or heavy rain.

Note: When automatic headlamps are on, the fog lamps can only be switched on after the headlamps have been activated by the automatic headlamp control.

Fog Tail Lights

Press the button to switch the rear fog lamp on or off.

You can only switch on the rear fog lamp if either the front fog lamps or the low beams are on.

Note: Use the rear fog lamp only when visibility is less than 164 feet (50 meters).

Note: Do not switch on the rear fog lamp in heavy rain or snowfall.

Note: When automatic headlamps are on, the fog lamps can only be switched on after the headlamps have been activated by the automatic headlamp control.

Headlamp Level Control

1. Press and release the control knob.

2. Turn the control knob to the required setting.

3. Press the control knob back into the detent position.

Adjust the headlamp beam height to match the vehicle load.

Recommended Headlamp Level Control Switch Positions

Turn Signals

Push the lever up or down to use the turn signals.

Note: Briefly tap the lever up or down to make the turn signals flash three times to indicate a lane change.

Welcome Lighting

Mustang Projection Lamps

The lamps are located at the bottom of the outside mirror housings. They project an image onto the ground directly in front of the vehicle when welcome lighting or entry lighting is switched on.

Note: Moisture, frost, ice and other contamination on the lamp lens surface can cause temporary image distortion or reduced brightness. Do not use abrasive materials to clean the lens.

Note: On vehicles with a manual transmission, the parking brake may need to be applied for this function to work.

Interior Lamps

The lamps switch on under the following conditions:

  • A door is opened.
  • You press a button on the remote control.
  • You press a reading lamp button.

Reading lights

A Left reading lamp.

B Right reading lamp.

Press the buttons to switch individual lamps on or off.

Ambient Lighting

The ambient lighting can be adjusted in the information display.

See Information Displays.
