Seat belts are a key element of occupant safety in the Ford Mustang VI. This chapter explains correct handling when fastening and releasing the belts and their use during pregnancy. Special features of the convertible, coupe, or Recaro seats are also explained. The seat belt reminder and its function as a reminder to fasten the belt further increase vehicle safety. The clear illustrations and notes support correct use for optimal protection on every journey.

Fastening the Seat Belts

WARNINGS

Insert the buckle tongue into the buckle until it latches audibly.

The seat belt is not correctly fastened unless it latches audibly in the buckle.

Make sure that your seat belt is correctly retracted and that it is not trapped when closing the door.

A belt guide is located on the outside of the front seats. Depending on size and seat position, it may be necessary to pull the belt through the guide so that it fits correctly. If the seat belt does not run across the middle of the shoulder, pull the belt through the belt guide.

Convertible

Coupe

Recaro

Pull the belt out smoothly. It may lock if you pull on it abruptly or if the vehicle is on a slope.

Press the red button on the buckle to release the seat belt. Hold the tongue and let the belt retract fully and slowly into the stowed position.

Use of Seat Belts During Pregnancy

WARNING

Make sure the seat belt is worn correctly to protect yourself and your unborn child.

Do not use only the lap belt or only the shoulder belt.

Pregnant women must always wear the seat belt. The lap belt portion of a combined lap and shoulder belt should be positioned as low as possible across the hips below the belly and fitted as snugly as possible without compromising comfort.

Position the shoulder belt portion across the middle of the shoulder and chest.

Seat Belt Reminder

WARNING

The system only provides protection when the seat belt is correctly fastened.

The warning lamp illuminates and an audible warning sounds when the following conditions occur:

  • The front seat belts are not fastened.
  • Your vehicle exceeds a relatively low speed.

It also illuminates and an audible warning sounds if either of the front

seat belts is unbuckled while driving.

If you do not fasten your seat belt, the warning automatically turns off after approximately five minutes.
