Parking Aid. Function Description. Rear Parking Aid
The rear parking aid on the Ford Mustang helps you stay safe when reversing. Sensors detect obstacles at close range and warn you audibly of possible collisions. Especially in city traffic or in tight parking spaces, the system makes parking stress-free and precise. The sensors are tuned to various object types, however there are limitations with small or moving objects. In combination with visual displays on the screen, the distance to the obstacle is shown clearly. The parking aid is an indispensable tool for everyday driving that increases safety for everyone involved.
Function Description
WARNINGS
To avoid injury and property damage, read the explanations of system limitations and boundaries in this section carefully. When driving on level ground at parking speeds, the parking aid only assists in detecting certain (usually stationary and large) objects.
Certain objects with surfaces that absorb ultrasonic waves, parking aid systems of surrounding vehicles, traffic guidance systems, fluorescent lamps, poor weather, air brakes, and external engines and fans can impair the function of the sensors and, among other things,
cause malfunctions or false activation of the system.
Therefore, exercise caution when reversing (R) even with the parking aid active to avoid accidents and injuries.
This system is not designed to avoid small or moving objects.
The system's purpose is to assist the driver with warnings when larger, stationary obstacles are detected. Under certain conditions, the system may not detect smaller objects, especially those close to the ground.
Certain aftermarket equipment such as large trailer hitches, bicycle or surfboard carriers and similar items can block the system's detection area and cause false audible warnings.
Note: Keep the sensors on the bumpers or trim free of snow, ice and heavy dirt buildup. If the sensors are covered, the accuracy of the system may be impaired. Do not clean the sensors with pointed or sharp objects.
Note: If the bumpers or front/rear trim of your vehicle are deformed or displaced from damage, the detection area of the sensors may change, which can result in incorrect distance measurements to obstacles or false warnings.
Note: The system sensors cannot be switched off when a MyKey is present. See Function Description.
Note: If you attach certain aftermarket equipment such as large trailers or bicycle carriers, these may be detected by the parking aid sensors, which can result in warnings. To avoid such warnings, it is recommended to switch off the parking aid sensors when you install aftermarket equipment on the vehicle.
The system sensors warn the driver of obstacles within a certain distance of the vehicle. The system switches on automatically when the ignition is turned on.
You can switch the system on and off by pressing the parking aid button. If your vehicle does not have a parking aid button, the system can be switched off via the information display menu or the pop-up message that appears when you select reverse (R). See General Information.
If a system malfunction occurs, a warning message appears in the information display. See Information Messages.
Rear Parking Aid
The rear parking aid sensors are only active when reverse (R) is selected.
The closer the vehicle gets to an obstacle, the faster the warning tones sound. When the obstacle is closer than 30 cm, the warning sounds continuously. If the system detects a stationary or receding obstacle at a distance greater than 30 cm from the bumper corners, the audible warning sounds for only three seconds. As soon as the system detects an approaching object, the warning tones sound again.

Detection range up to 1.8 m from the rear bumper. In the area of the outer corners of the bumper, the range may be reduced.
The system detects certain objects while the transmission is in R (Reverse):
- Your vehicle is moving toward a stationary object at a speed of up to 5 km/h.
- The vehicle is stationary, but a moving object is approaching the rear of the vehicle at a speed of up to 5 km/h.
- The vehicle is moving at a speed of up to 5 km/h, and a moving object is approaching the rear of the vehicle at a speed of less than 5 km/h.
The system only emits audible warnings when the vehicle is moving, or when the vehicle is stationary and the detected obstacle is less than 30 cm from the bumper.
Obstacle Distance Display
The system provides a display of the distance to the obstacle in the information display. The distance display switches on when reverse (R) is selected.
The display shows the following:
- As the distance to the obstacle decreases, the indicator segments light up and move closer to the vehicle symbol.
- When no obstacle is detected, the distance indicator segments are grayed out.
The parking assist system of the Ford Mustang (VI Gen, 2014–2023) reliably supports the driver when maneuvering in tight spaces. Using sensors that detect obstacles in the rear area, the system warns of potential collisions in good time. The 2014–2023 Ford Mustang combines sporty design with practical everyday usability.
Notes on weather conditions or aftermarket components help you use the parking assist system optimally and avoid malfunctions. The Ford Mustang VI generation shows how modern technology increases comfort and safety in everyday use.
This parking assist system is another example of how the Ford Mustang (VI Gen, 2014–2023) offers well-considered solutions for drivers who value precision and safety.
