This section explains in detail how to care for leather seats, wheels and convertible tops on the Ford Mustang (6th Gen). It lists suitable cleaning products, describes the procedure for removing dirt and stains, and warns against aggressive chemicals. Minor paint damage can also be treated effectively using the touch-up tips. This care guide helps Mustang owners keep their vehicle in excellent visual and technical condition over the long term. Additional care notes are provided for heavily used areas such as the convertible top, from the correct cleaning method to avoiding wax or pressure damage.

Cleaning Leather Seats

Note: When cleaning leather-wrapped instrument panels and leather interior trim surfaces, follow the same procedure as for cleaning leather seats.

Note: Remove spilled liquids as soon as possible and clean the affected areas.

Test each cleaner or

stain remover on an inconspicuous area first.

Note: Avoid saturating leather surfaces.

Note: We recommend using distilled water for cleaning.

For cleaning and for removing stains, such as paint spots, use a commercially available automotive interior leather cleaner.

Do not use the following products, as they can damage the leather:

  • Leather care products based on oil, petroleum or silicone.
  • Household cleaners.
  • Alcohol solutions.
  • Solvents or cleaners designed specifically for rubber, vinyl and plastic.

Cleaning:

  • Remove dust and loose dirt with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Wipe the surface clean with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap solution. Dry the area with a clean, soft cloth.
  • Do not rub stains into the leather.
  • Do not use foam cleaners on perforated leather.

Repairing Minor Paint Damage

Paint damage or small scratches caused by road debris impacts must be repaired as soon as possible. A selection of products is available from your authorized dealer.

Before repairing paint damage, remove residue from bird droppings, tree sap, insects, tar spots, road salt and acid rain.

Always read and follow the manufacturer's instructions before using the products.

Cleaning Alloy Wheels

Note: Never apply cleaning chemicals to warm or

hot wheels and covers.

Note: Heavy-duty industrial cleaners or cleaning chemicals used together with a brush to remove brake dust or dirt may damage the paint over time.

Note: Never use acid-based or caustic hydrofluoric cleaners, steel wool, gasoline or strong household cleaners to clean the wheels.

Note: If the vehicle is to be parked for an extended period after cleaning the wheels with a wheel cleaner, drive the vehicle for a few minutes beforehand. This reduces the risk of corrosion on the brake discs, brake pads and linings.

Note: Some automatic car washes can damage the paint on the wheels and wheel covers.

Alloy wheels and wheel covers are protected by a clear coat. To maintain their condition, we recommend:

  • Weekly cleaning with the recommended wheel and tire cleaner.
  • Use a sponge to remove stubborn deposits such as dirt and brake dust.
  • After cleaning, rinse thoroughly with a high-pressure washer.

We recommend Ford Service Wheel Cleaner. Make sure the manufacturer's instructions are read carefully and followed.

Using other, non-recommended cleaning products can cause severe and permanent visible damage.

Cleaning the Convertible Top

Remove lint with a lint roller, or vacuum it off using a brush with soft bristles.

Wash fabric and vinyl tops with an approved, high-quality convertible top cleaner and protectant.

Note: Do not use brushes with hard bristles, abrasive substances or household cleaning products.

Note: High-pressure water can cause water leaks and possible damage to the convertible top seals.

Note: Do not fold the convertible top when it is wet.

Note: Do not apply hot wax to vinyl materials when washing the vehicle.

Body Styling Kits

The ground clearance of your vehicle is lower than that of other models. Drive with extreme caution to avoid damaging your vehicle.
