General Information
WARNINGS
Extended idling at high engine speeds can cause high temperatures in the engine and exhaust system, creating a risk of fire and other damage.
Never park, idle, or drive the vehicle on dry grass or other dry material on the ground. The exhaust system heats the engine compartment and exhaust system, creating a fire hazard.
Never start the engine in a closed garage or other enclosed space. Exhaust gases can be toxic. Always open the garage door before starting the engine.
If you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, have your vehicle checked by an authorized dealer immediately. Never drive the vehicle if you smell exhaust fumes.
After disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, the vehicle may behave somewhat unusually during the first few kilometers (approx. 8 km) after reconnection. This is because the engine control system must recalibrate itself to the engine. Any unusual vehicle behavior during this period can be disregarded.
The powertrain control system complies with all requirements of the Canadian Interference-Causing Equipment Standards.
Do not depress the accelerator pedal before or while starting the engine. Only use the accelerator pedal if problems occur when starting the engine.
Keyless Start System
Note: The keyless start system may not function if metal objects or electronic devices, such as mobile phones, are near the key.
Note: A valid key must be inside the vehicle to switch on the ignition and start the engine.
Ignition Modes

The keyless start system has three modes:
OFF: Switches the ignition off.
- While the engine is running but the vehicle is stationary, press and release the button once without depressing the brake pedal.
ON: All circuits are ready for operation and the warning lamps and indicators illuminate.
- Press and release the button once without depressing the brake pedal.
START: Starts the engine.
- Depress the brake pedal (automatic transmission) or the clutch pedal (manual transmission), then press and hold the button for as long as necessary. An indicator light on the button illuminates when the ignition is on and when the engine starts.
Steering Wheel Lock
Your vehicle is equipped with an electronic steering wheel lock that engages automatically.
The system locks the steering wheel shortly after the vehicle is switched off, if the passive key is outside the vehicle, and when you lock the vehicle.
Note: The system does not lock the steering wheel when the ignition is on or the vehicle is moving.
Unlocking the Steering Wheel
Switch the ignition on to unlock the steering wheel.
Note: You may need to turn the steering wheel slightly to assist unlocking.
The starting system of the Ford Mustang (VI Gen, 2014–2023) combines modern technology with a high level of safety. With keyless access and the electronic steering wheel lock, the Ford Mustang 2014–2023 offers a user-friendly solution for everyday use.
