Safety
Security features play a central role in the Ford Mustang (VI Gen), and this includes the passive anti-theft system. It reliably prevents unauthorized engine starting with uncoded keys. In addition, the Mustang offers a comprehensive alarm system which, depending on equipment, also includes interior sensors or a battery-backed siren. The range of security measures ensures that this iconic sports car remains optimally protected in everyday use.
Passive Anti-Theft System
Operation
The system prevents the engine from starting with a key that is not properly coded.
Note: Do not leave correctly programmed keys in the vehicle. Always lock all doors and take the keys with you when leaving the vehicle.
Coded Keys
If you lose a key, you can obtain a replacement key from your authorized dealer. If possible, provide the key number shown on the tag supplied with the original keys. Additional keys are also available from an authorized dealer.
Note: If you lose a key, have all remaining keys erased and reprogrammed. Have your replacement keys recoded together with the other keys. If you have any questions, please contact an authorized dealer.
Note: Do not shield the key with metal objects. This may prevent the receiver from recognizing a coded key.
Arming the Anti-Theft System
When you switch off the ignition, the electronic anti-theft system arms automatically after a short delay.
Disarming the Anti-Theft System
When you switch on the ignition, the anti-theft system is disarmed automatically if a correctly coded key is used.
If you cannot start your vehicle with a correctly coded key, have your vehicle checked by an authorized dealer.
Theft Alarm - Vehicles Equipped with Theft Warning System without Interior Monitoring

Take all remote transmitters to an authorized dealer if a potential alarm problem exists with the vehicle.
Arming the Alarm
To arm the theft warning system, lock the vehicle. See Doors and Locks.
Disarming the Alarm
The alarm is disarmed and silenced as soon as you unlock the doors and switch on the vehicle, or unlock the doors using the remote transmitter.
Note: A valid transmitter must be within the detection range of this keyless entry door. See Keyless Entry.

Triggering the Alarm
Once the system is armed, the alarm is triggered in the following cases:
- Opening a door or the hood without a valid key or remote transmitter.
- Removal of the audio or navigation system.
- Switching on the vehicle without a correctly programmed key.
- Detection of movement in the interior by the interior sensors.
When the alarm is triggered, the alarm horn sounds for 30 seconds and the hazard warning lights flash for five minutes.
If any of the events described above are detected again, the alarm is triggered again.
