Convertible Top
The power convertible top of the Ford Mustang Convertible (VI Gen) combines style with function. This chapter shows how to safely open and close the folding roof and explains the steps for using the tonneau cover. It also provides guidance on speed and audio system operation while the top is in motion. Safety-related aspects such as blocked top stowage compartments or open doors are also covered. This keeps the driving experience comfortable and well engineered even in the open air.
Opening the Convertible Top
Before operating the convertible top, you must first release it from the windshield header, then use the convertible top control.
Note: The convertible top only operates when the vehicle is stationary or traveling at less than 4.8 km/h. A warning tone sounds and a warning message appears in the instrument cluster. When you slow down, the convertible top will operate.
Note: When you latch or unlatch the convertible top, the audio system is briefly muted. This allows the vehicle to optimally adjust the sound quality in the passenger compartment depending on the position of the convertible top.
Unlatch the convertible top:
- Bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The ignition must be switched on. We recommend not switching off the vehicle while opening the convertible top to avoid draining the battery.
- Check the convertible top stowage compartment behind the rear seat to make sure it is empty. Make sure the outside of the convertible top is free of debris.
- Move the top latch handle above the rearview mirror down toward the windshield, and turn the handle clockwise to release the convertible top.

The windows open automatically when you press the convertible top switch.
Opening the convertible top:
- Press and hold the convertible top switch on the overhead console until the windows are fully lowered and the top is completely stowed.
- Release the convertible top switch.

Note: Do not place items behind the rear seat. Items stored in the convertible top stowage compartment can break the rear window when you open the top.
Note: Opening the convertible top when it is wet can cause mildew or mold stains.
Using the Tonneau Covers
Your convertible top also includes two tonneau covers, one for each side of the vehicle. These tonneau covers are stored in the trunk.

After you open your convertible top, place the tonneau covers between the top and the trim panel of your
vehicle:
- Insert A under the trim panel.
- When A is under the trim panel, bend B down so the edges slide under the surrounding molding, and secure them between the trim panel edges.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 on the opposite side of the vehicle to install the second tonneau cover.
Closing the Convertible Top
The convertible top is closed in three steps: remove both tonneau covers, press the convertible top switch to close the top, and then engage the latch.
Removing the tonneau covers:
- Push B toward the center of the vehicle to release the edges from the surrounding molding.
- Lift B and pull the part back to release A from the molding.
- Repeat steps 1 to 2 on the opposite side of the vehicle.
- Make sure both tonneau covers are stored in the trunk.

Note: The convertible top only operates when the vehicle is stationary or traveling at less than 4.8 km/h. A warning tone sounds and a warning message appears in the instrument cluster. When you slow down, the convertible top will operate.
Note: You must remove the tonneau covers before you can close the top. Otherwise, a warning chime sounds and a warning message appears in the instrument cluster.
Remove and store the tonneau covers, then press the convertible top switch again.
Note: When you latch or unlatch the convertible top, the audio system is briefly muted. This allows the vehicle to optimally adjust the sound quality in the passenger compartment depending on the position of the convertible top.
Closing the convertible top:
- Stop the vehicle and keep the engine running. We recommend not switching off the vehicle while closing the top to avoid draining the battery.
- Press and hold the convertible top switch. When the top latch handle is within reach, make sure it points down, and turn it clockwise so the handle is in the fully open position. Continue pressing the convertible top switch until the windows are fully lowered and the top unfolds and moves forward toward the upper edge of the windshield.
- When the convertible top rests evenly on the upper edge of the windshield, release the convertible top switch.

The last step in closing the convertible top is to engage the latch.
Engaging the top latch:
- Pull it down onto the latch handle and turn the handle counterclockwise to secure the convertible top.
- After you fully secure the convertible top, push the latch handle into the stowed position to lock the latch.

Note: If you leave the top open for a long time or when it is cold, the top material may contract slightly.
If this happens, pull the latch handle to secure the convertible top.
