Supplemental Restraint System. Function Description. Driver Airbag. Passenger Airbag
The Supplemental Restraint System in the Ford Mustang (6th Gen, 2014–2023) provides comprehensive protection through modern airbag technology. Both driver and passenger airbags deploy in severe frontal collisions. Proper seating position and seat belt use are essential to achieve full protection. Warnings about modifying the vehicle or improper use underline the importance of this system. This chapter shows how technology saves lives when used correctly.
Function Description
WARNINGS
EXTREME DANGER! Never use a rear-facing child restraint system on a seat protected by an active airbag in front of it! There is a risk of fatal injury to the child!
Never modify the front of the vehicle. This may impair airbag deployment. Failure to heed this warning may result in serious or fatal injury.
Always wear your seat belt and maintain adequate distance from the steering wheel. Only a properly worn seat belt can keep you in a position where the airbag can provide optimal protection. See Correct Seating Position. Failure to heed this warning may result in serious or fatal injury.
Have repairs to the steering wheel, steering column, seats, airbags and seat belts performed only by an authorized dealer. Failure to heed this warning may result in serious or fatal injury.
Always keep the area in front of the airbags clear. Do not attach anything to the airbag covers.
Hard objects can cause serious injury or death in a crash.
Never stick pointed or sharp objects into the seat. This may cause damage and impair airbag deployment.
Failure to heed this warning may result in serious or fatal injury.
WARNINGS
Only use seat covers designed for seats with side airbags. Have them installed only by an authorized dealer. Failure to heed this warning may result in serious or fatal injury.
Note: When an airbag deploys, a loud bang occurs.
At the same time, a smoke-like cloud of powdery residue may form.
This is normal.
Note: Clean airbag covers only with a damp cloth.
Driver Airbag

The airbag deploys in severe frontal collisions. The airbag inflates within a few thousandths of a second.
The air escapes on contact with the occupant, so the airbag cushions the body. In less severe frontal collisions, rollovers, rear impacts and side impacts, the airbag may not deploy.
Passenger Airbag

The passenger airbag deploys in severe frontal or near-frontal impacts. The airbag inflates within a few thousandths of a second. The air escapes on contact with the occupant, so the airbag cushions the body. In less severe frontal collisions, rollovers, rear impacts and side impacts, the front passenger airbag does not deploy.
The Supplemental Restraint System of the Ford Mustang (6th Gen, 2014–2023) is designed to provide maximum protection in collisions. Driver, passenger and side airbags work together with the seat belts to minimize injury risk. The 2014–2023 Ford Mustang relies on the latest safety technology.
The clear arrangement of the airbags and the warnings on correct use underline the Ford Mustang 6th Generation's high safety standards. Every component is part of a well-designed overall concept for occupant protection.
