Removing and Installing Outside Mirror and Mirror Glass

Outside mirror 1 mirror housing 2 mirror adjustment unit (manual). Electric adjustment unit, refer to Rear Door Removal and Installation. 3 mirror adjusting element bar 4 internal hex screw, 12 N·m 5 seal. Check for correct fit during installation. 6 Phillips head screw, 1 N·m 7 mirror glass 8 pin 9 clip

Manual Mirror Adjustment Unit REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the outside mirror from the door.

2. Remove the mirror glass.

3. Disconnect the electrical wires of the mirror heater.

4. Unscrew the Phillips head screws –6– and remove the adjustment unit from the housing. INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

Mirror Glass REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

1. Cover the top and bottom of the mirror housing with adhesive tape.

2. Carefully pry the glass out with a spatula, first at the bottom, then at the top. INSTALLATION

CAUTION

When installing the mirror glass, always wear gloves or place a clean cloth underneath.

PROCEDURE

1. Insert the glass into the guide pivots, and the pins –8– into the clips –9–.

2. Press the mirror glass in at the center.

Mirror Housing REMOVAL

CAUTION

The mirror housing can be removed without removing the entire mirror.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the glass –7–.

2. Unscrew the screws –4–.

3. Press the tabs –2– and remove the cover –3– downward.

4. Unscrew the screws –1– at the mirror adjustment unit.

5. Remove the housing –5– upward. INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE

1. Install the housing –5– from above.

2. Install the screws –1– at the adjustment unit and tighten them lightly to 1 N·m.

3. Install the cover –3– from below and secure it.

4. Install the mirror glass.

Electric Mirror Adjustment Unit REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative (–) battery cable with the ignition switched off.

CAUTION

As a result, information stored in electronic memory modules, such as the radio code, will be erased. Without the code, the radio may be locked and must be unlocked at an AUDI service station. Therefore, refer to sub-section Entering Radio Code.

2. Remove the mirror glass.

3. Unscrew the screws –1–.

4. Disconnect the plug connectors of the mirror adjustment unit.

CAUTION

If soldered connections are present, they must be disconnected separately directly at the housing. Record the position of connections before disconnecting them.

5. Remove the adjustment unit from the housing. INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE

1. Insert the adjustment unit into the housing.

2. Connect the electrical wires according to their positions.

3. Lightly tighten the screws –1– to 1 N·m.

4. Install the glass.

5. Connect the negative (–) battery cable.

CAUTION

Activate the automatic high-position function of the electric window regulator, and set the clock and enter the radio code. Refer to the subsection Entering the radio code.
