Replacing Windshield Wiper Blade Rubber Inserts

~1min read

GENERAL INFORMATION

Windshield wiper blades must be replaced if they do not clean the glass properly. Complete wiper blades (rubber insert with holder) as well as individual blades are available. If only the rubber insert is replaced, make sure not to bend the holder.

CAUTION

If the wiper blades move in jerks, replacing the blades or rubber inserts is usually not sufficient. As a precaution, check and, if necessary, adjust the wiper arm installation angle. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm End Position Removal, Installation, Inspection and Adjustment.

REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

1. Fold the arm up and set the blade at a right angle to the arm.

2. Press the spring clip (A) (direction of arrow) and slide the blade down (B) out of the hook on the arm. Remove the blade from the arm hook.

3. Using pliers, squeeze both steel strips on the closed side of the rubber insert and pull them out of the upper bracket. Then remove the rubber insert together with the strips from the remaining brackets of the blade.

INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE

1. Loosely insert the new rubber insert without strips into the lower brackets of the blade.

2. Insert both strips into the first groove of the rubber insert so that the slots of the strips face the rubber insert, and secure them in the rubber tabs of the groove.

3. Using pliers, squeeze both steel strips and the rubber insert, and insert them into the upper bracket so that the tabs of the bracket are locked in the clamping slots (arrow in illustration) of the rubber insert on both sides.

4. Insert the rubber insert through the arm and secure the spring clips in the hooks of the arm. The spoiler on the blade, if equipped, must face down.

5. Lower the arm back down. Make sure the rubber insert contacts the glass along its entire length; otherwise, carefully bend the holder.
