Checking the windshield wipers and washers

PROCEDURE

Switch the ignition on.

Do the wipers run at both speeds and return to the park position when switched off?
Does the intermittent mode work, as well as the automatic washing and wiping function?
Rear wiper on the Avant estate version: does the rear wiper run for as long as the wiper switch is pushed forward?
Does the wiper switch to intermittent operation?
Does it turn off when the switch is pressed again?
Does water come from the washer jets for as long as the wiper switch is pulled toward you?

To remove the wiper blade (1) from the wiper arm (2), pull down the small lever (arrow) so the latch releases from the recess in the wiper arm.

The wiper arm (3) can be removed from the wiper shaft after removing (prying off) the protective cap (1) and loosening its retaining nut (2). Rock it slightly back and forth to release the splined connection.
