Wiper Motor
The wiper motor receives power with the ignition switched on through the X-contact relay and the fuse (refer to Body Electrical System). The wire terminals on the wiper motor have the following meaning:
Terminal 53 supplies power for the first speed of the wiper.
Terminal 53a supplies power to park the wiper blades. This means that power is supplied to the motor until the motor returns to the park position.
Terminal 53b supplies power for the second speed of the wiper.
Through terminal 31b, the wiper motor is braked when the blades return to the park position after the wipers are switched off, so that the blades do not overshoot the park position.
Note: with the ignition on, the wiper blades must not be blocked outside their park position, for example by a thick layer of snow or ice. In this case terminal 53a remains constantly energized. Since the wiper motor cannot rotate because the blades are blocked, it will burn out after some time. In such a case, the obstruction must be removed so that the blades can move.
