Vehicle speed sensor

~1min read
Слева спереди на коробке передач мы видим штекер выключателя фары заднего хода

On the front left side of the transmission are the reverse light switch connector (1) and the vehicle speed sensor (2). To remove the vehicle speed sensor, press the retaining clip, disconnect the connector (3), press down the latch (arrow), turn the sensor and pull it out.

Speed pulses for the speedometer come from a reed switch on the left side of the transmission. A reed switch is a hermetically sealed contact unit in a gas-filled envelope. The contact closes when subjected to a magnetic field. For the reed switch to supply pulses, it must open and close in time with the rotational speed. Therefore, a notched wheel rotating in front of the sensor affects the magnetic field acting on the contact unit.

Testing the vehicle speed sensor
PROCEDURE

Raise the front left wheel.

Press the retaining clip on the sensor connector and disconnect it.

Connect an ohmmeter to both sensor terminals, then slowly turn the left wheel by hand.

The ohmmeter reading should fluctuate between 0 Ohm and infinity.

If this is not the case, replace the sensor.

Removing the speedometer signal generator
PROCEDURE

Press the retaining clip on the sensor connector and disconnect it.

Press the latch on the retaining clip slightly down and turn the sensor slightly to the right (clockwise).

Pull the sensor out of the transmission.

When installing, make sure the rubber sealing ring seats correctly.
