Ignition Lock

Ignition Switch
The key can be in one of four positions in the ignition switch: LOCK (0), ACCESSORY (I), ON (II) and START (III).
LOCK (0) position — LOCK. You can insert or remove the key from the ignition switch only in this position. To turn the key, press it in slightly.
If the front wheels are turned, the steering column lock may sometimes prevent the ignition key from being removed from the LOCK (0) position. In this case, turn the steering wheel slightly in either direction while turning the key.
ACCESSORY (I) position — ACCESSORY POWER. In this key position, the audio system and cigarette lighter can operate.
ON (II) position — IGNITION ON.
In this position, the ignition key remains in the switch while the vehicle is being driven. When the key is turned from the ACCESSORY (I) position to the ON (II) position, some indicators and warning lights on the instrument panel turn on briefly to check that they are working.
On some vehicle versions, the lights turn on automatically in this key position.

In this key position, you can start the engine by pressing the ENGINE START button; see page 318 for vehicles with a gasoline engine and manual transmission, page 319 for vehicles with a gasoline engine and i-SHIFT transmission, and page 320 for vehicles with a diesel engine.
Your vehicle is equipped with a chime that sounds when the driver's door is opened to remind you that the key is left in the ignition switch in the LOCK (0) or ACCESSORY (I) position. In addition, the multi-information display shows the "
" icon, which may be accompanied by the message "IGNITION KEY". As soon as the key is removed from the ignition switch, the warning chime stops and the icon disappears from the display.

WARNING
Removing the key from the ignition switch while the vehicle is moving will lock the steering column.
This may result in loss of vehicle control.
Remove the key from the ignition switch only when the vehicle is stationary.
