This section describes the climate control options in the Ford Mustang (6th generation), for both manual and automatic climate control. The location and operation of the air vents, controls and buttons are clearly described. By combining cooling, heating and defrost functions, the interior can be efficiently adjusted to your preference. Special notes on preventing window fogging and odor build-up complete the chapter. Whether summer heat or winter frost, the vehicle climate remains under control at all times.

Center Air Vents

Side Air Vents

Manual Climate Control

A On/Off: Press the button to switch the system on or off.

When the system is switched off, no outside air enters the vehicle.

B Defrost: Directs airflow to the windshield vents. Airflow to the instrument panel and footwell vents is turned off. You can also use this setting to defrost the windshield and remove a thin layer of ice from the glass.

C Heated Rear Window: Press this button to switch the heated rear window on or off. See Heated Windows and Mirrors.

D MAX A/C: Turn the control to the full cooling position for maximum cooling. Recirculated air flows through the instrument panel vents, A/C switches on automatically, and the blower is set automatically to the highest speed.

E Temperature Control: Controls the temperature of the air circulating in your vehicle.

F MAX Defrost: Turn the control to the full heat position to activate defrost. Outside air flows through the windshield vents, A/C switches on automatically, and the blower is set automatically to the highest speed. You can also use this setting to defrost the windshield and remove a thin layer of ice from the glass. When you select the maximum defrost setting, the heated rear window also switches on automatically.

Note: To prevent the windows from fogging up, recirculation cannot be selected during maximum defrost.

G Recirculation: Press the button to switch between outside (fresh) air and recirculated air. When recirculation is selected, the air inside the passenger compartment is circulated. This can reduce the time needed to cool the interior (when used together with A/C) and prevent unwanted odors from entering the vehicle.

Note: In all airflow modes except MAX A/C, recirculation can be switched off automatically (or its selection prevented) to prevent the windows from fogging. In hot weather, recirculation can also be switched on or off automatically in the Instrument Panel or Instrument Panel and Footwell airflow modes to improve cooling performance.

H Airflow Distribution Control: Set the control to switch the airflow from the windshield, instrument panel or footwell vents on or off. You can distribute air through any combination of these vents.

I A/C: Press the button to switch the air conditioning on or off. The air conditioning cools your vehicle using outside air. To reduce the time needed to reach a comfortable temperature in hot weather, drive with the windows open until cool air is felt from the vents.

Note: Under certain conditions (e.g., maximum defrost), the A/C compressor may continue to run even when the A/C is switched off.

J Blower Speed Indicators: Light up to show the blower speed.

K Blower Switch: Controls the volume of air circulating in the vehicle.

Automatic air conditioning

A Heated Seats: Press to switch the heated seats on or off. See Heated and Ventilated Seats.

B Left Temperature Control: Adjusts the temperature on the left side. This control also adjusts the temperature on the right side when dual-zone mode is switched off.

C Defrost: Directs airflow to the windshield vents. Airflow to the instrument panel and footwell vents is turned off. You can also use this setting to defrost the windshield and remove a thin layer of ice from the glass.

D MAX Defrost: Press to switch to defrost mode.

E Blower Switch: Adjusts the volume of air circulating in the vehicle.

F On/Off: Press to switch the system on or off. When the system is switched off, no outside air enters the vehicle.

G MAX A/C: Press to set maximum cooling. Recirculated air flows through the instrument panel vents, the air conditioning turns on automatically, and the fan automatically goes to the highest speed.

H A/C: Press to turn the air conditioning on or off. The air conditioning cools your vehicle using outside air. To reach the desired interior temperature faster in hot weather, drive with the window open until cool air is felt from the air vents.

Note: Under certain conditions (for example, maximum defrost), the air conditioning may continue to run after it has been turned off.

I Right Temperature Control: Adjusts the temperature on the right side.

J Heated and Ventilated Seats: Press to turn the heated and ventilated seats on or off. See Heated and Ventilated Seats.

K AUTO: Press to activate automatic operation. Set the desired temperature. Fan speed, airflow distribution, air conditioning operation, and fresh air or recirculation are adjusted automatically to heat or cool the vehicle and maintain the desired temperature. You can also turn off dual-zone mode by pressing and holding the button for more than two seconds.

L Recirculation: Press this button to switch between outside (fresh) air and recirculated air. The air inside the passenger compartment is recirculated. This can reduce the time needed to cool the interior and prevent unwanted odors from entering the vehicle.

Note: In hot weather, recirculation may also be switched on or off automatically in the instrument panel or instrument panel and floor airflow mode to improve cooling performance.

M Heated Rear Window: Press to turn the heated rear window on or off. See Heated Windows and Mirrors.

Practical features such as MAX A/C, defrost modes, and dual-zone control keep the driving experience comfortable even in difficult weather conditions. The Ford Mustang VI Generation shows its strength here in modern technology and everyday usability.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I activate maximum defrost in the Ford Mustang (VI Gen, 2014–2023)?

Press the MAX Defrost button. The system automatically sets the highest fan speed and heating output, while recirculation is turned off.

Can I use recirculation while the air conditioning is on?

Yes, this is possible in normal operation. However, with MAX Defrost, the recirculation function is turned off automatically to prevent the windows from fogging up.
