Correct Seating Position When Using Seat Belts
Always fasten your seat belt before every trip. Airbags only supplement the seat belts, increasing the overall level of protection, but do not replace them.
Only one person should use each seat belt. It is prohibited to carry children, even infants, on your lap. Pregnant women must also wear the seat belt, but pay special attention that the lap belt sits across the upper thighs and not on the abdomen. Never allow the belt to cross the neck, be pinched, or rub against sharp edges. The webbing must lie as close to the body as possible, without twists, and be taut across the shoulder and upper thighs. Otherwise, in a frontal collision the lap belt may slide up over the hips, which can cause injuries to the abdomen. Make sure there are no hard or breakable objects under the belt. Avoid wearing thick clothing and make sure the lap belt is snug, periodically tightening the belt where it crosses the shoulder. Otherwise, its ability to restrain the forward movement of the body is reduced.
