Loading Luggage

To avoid exceeding the permissible tire load capacity, do not overload the vehicle. Overloading causes tires to overheat and suffer internal damage, which may lead to sudden tire failure.

Placing Luggage

► Place heavy loads as far forward as possible, directly behind the rear seat backrests, and as low as possible.
► Cover or wrap sharp edges and corners with protective material.
► Make sure the load does not extend above the seat backrests.
► Secure the partition net and make sure items do not slip through its openings.
► When transporting very heavy loads on the rear seats, route the outer seat belts crosswise, i.e., fasten each belt in the buckle intended for the opposite side.

Securing Luggage

► Secure small and light items with straps, cargo nets, or tie-down straps.
► For large and heavy items, special tie-down straps are available from a BMW service center; they attach to the eyelets located in the corners of the luggage compartment.
► Follow the instructions supplied with the tie-down straps.

To avoid endangering passengers during braking or sudden maneuvers, always stow and secure luggage carefully.

Do not exceed the maximum permissible gross vehicle weight and axle loads, see page 187. Exceeding them not only reduces vehicle safety but also violates legal requirements.

When placing heavy and hard objects in the passenger compartment, make sure they are securely fastened so that they do not shift during hard braking or maneuvering and do not endanger passengers.
