Ignition Key Positions 0 Steering locked 1 Steering unlocked 2 Ignition on/ X5 3.0d: preheating 3 Engine starting

Steering Locked. The key can only be inserted into and removed from the lock in this position.

After removing the key from the lock, gently move the steering wheel back and forth until it locks.

Interlock:

Vehicles with automatic transmission: to return the key to position 0 or remove it from the lock, first move the selector lever to position P.

Steering Unlocked. Turning the key from position 0 to position 1 is often made easier by gently moving the steering wheel back and forth.

Some electrical consumers are ready for operation.
