Parking Lamps and Low Beams

Parking lamps: the lamps on all sides of the vehicle are switched on.

The parking lamps can be used for parking. Regarding additional one-sided parking lamps.

Low beams: If the ignition is switched off while the low beams are on, only the parking lamps remain lit.

"Welcome home" function: if the flasher signal is activated after switching off the ignition and the headlamps, the low beams light up for a period of time. You can have this function deactivated at a BMW service center.

Lights-on warning: If the driver's door is opened after turning the ignition key to position 0 without first switching off the lights, a short audible signal sounds to remind you.

On vehicles with a text display:

the reminder is supported by a message from the automatic diagnosis system.

Permanent low beam: If desired, the light switch can be left in the low beam on position: when the ignition is switched off, the exterior lighting goes off.

Observe legal requirements governing the use of permanent low beams.

Parking lamps are switched on in the usual way, see section "Parking Lamps".

The permanent low beam circuit can be programmed at a BMW service center.

Automatic headlamp control: In this switch position, the low beam headlamps switch on and off automatically depending on the ambient light (for example, in tunnels, at dusk, and in rain or snow).

If fog lamps are switched on in addition to the automatically activated low beams, the low beam headlamps do not switch off automatically.

The automatic system cannot assess the level of illumination better than you can.

For example, the sensors cannot detect fog. In such situations, switch on the headlamps manually, otherwise there is a risk to driving safety.

The sensitivity of the headlamp control system can be adjusted.
