Before Starting - Starting the Engine
► Apply the parking brake.
► Place the manual transmission shift lever in neutral and the automatic transmission selector lever in position P.
► Depress the clutch pedal (especially at low outside temperatures).
► On vehicles with automatic transmission, depress the brake pedal.
Do not leave the engine running in enclosed spaces. Inhaling exhaust gases, which are harmful to health, can cause loss of consciousness and even death. Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, which is poisonous. It has no color or odor and is therefore difficult to detect. Do not leave the vehicle unattended with the engine running. In this condition, it becomes a potential source of danger. Before leaving the vehicle with the engine running, shift the transmission into neutral (on automatic transmissions, into position N) and apply the parking brake to prevent the vehicle from rolling away unintentionally.
