Releasing the Shift Lever Lock
If the shift lever cannot be moved out of "P" using the normal procedure (while depressing the brake pedal), perform the following operations (the same procedure applies to releasing the lock for engaging reverse):
a) Apply the parking brake;
b) Make sure the ignition is off (key turned to "OFF" [0]). If you need to release the reverse lock, the ignition key must be in the "ACC" (I) position;
c) Cover the cap located to the right of the shift lever guide slot and providing access to the lock release mechanism with a piece of cloth. Using a small flat-blade screwdriver (not included in the vehicle tool kit) or another suitable tool, carefully press on the edge and remove the cap;
d) Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the slot;
e) Press down on the screwdriver and at the same time move the shift lever from "P" to "N";
f) To release the reverse lock, move the shift lever from "N" to "R", then to "P";
g) Remove the screwdriver from the slot and install a new cap in place. Depress the brake pedal and start the engine.

If the procedure described above was required to release the shift lever lock, the likely cause is a transmission malfunction. Contact a Honda service station to inspect and repair the vehicle.
