Driving Recommendations in Adverse Weather Conditions
Traction Control System (TCS)
Some models may be equipped with a traction control system (TCS), which helps the vehicle start and accelerate with greater confidence on slippery road surfaces. The system automatically limits engine output as soon as one of the driven wheels loses grip with the road surface and begins to spin. The operation of the traction control system can be felt through the steering wheel.
Driving in rain, heavy fog or snowfall requires special driving skills from the driver due to reduced wheel grip on the road surface and reduced visibility. Always keep the vehicle in good working condition. Exercise special caution when driving in bad weather. Avoid using the cruise control (if equipped) in adverse weather conditions.
Driving in Adverse Road Conditions
Reduce your speed and drive more slowly than you normally would in normal weather conditions on a dry road surface. Keep in mind that the vehicle's response to control inputs will be more sluggish and delayed, even if the road surface only appears slightly wet. Apply all vehicle controls smoothly. On wet and slippery road surfaces, a sudden jerk of the steering wheel or careless pressing of the brake pedal may lead to loss of vehicle control. At the beginning of a trip, before you have fully adapted to adverse weather conditions, exercise extra caution. This rule is especially important when driving during snowfall. Remember that when the vehicle is operated in warm weather, many useful skills for driving on slippery road surfaces are forgotten, and it takes some time to regain them.
Exercise particular caution when driving in the rain, since a lack of practice during the dry period does not allow you to quickly adjust your driving style to the new conditions. Note: After a long dry period, the first rains make the road surface especially slippery.
Visibility
For road safety in any weather conditions, it is very important to have good visibility in all directions. Also make sure your vehicle remains clearly visible to other road users. Remember that when driving on highways, switching on the low beam headlights is never a mistake, even in daylight. These requirements are more difficult to meet in adverse weather conditions.
Regularly check the condition of the wiper blades and windshield washer nozzles. Always maintain the required fluid level in the washer fluid reservoir. Use only recommended brands of fluid to fill the washer system. Monitor the condition of the wiper components and replace them as soon as the blades no longer clean the glass properly. To prevent moisture from condensing on the inside of the glass, use the air flow to the windows and, if necessary, switch on the air conditioning.
