Liftgate Glass (Hatchback Body)

Remove or disconnect:

PROCEDURE.

1. Inner cord of the liftgate glass seal..

2. Disconnect the liftgate glass defroster wiring..

3. Glass molding. When installing new molding later, the old molding can be

removed by prying or cutting it off..

4. Using a seal removal knife, cut the seal around the entire

perimeter as close as possible to the glass edge..

5. Remove the liftgate glass..

Clean.

PROCEDURE.

1. Clean the window opening of all residual materials..

2. Clean the glass along the perimeter edge for subsequent application of preparatory coats.

3. Wipe the windshield with a clean cloth dampened with alcohol..

Installation

PROCEDURE.

1. Using a new brush, apply the preparatory layers along the glass edge using the appropriate compounds from the repair kit. First apply the clear primer, then the black primer. Primer layers

are applied along the perimeter of the glass edge (inside surface) in a strip 6 mm wide..

2. Glass molding. To secure the molding to the glass, use masking tape (applied to the outside surface of the glass). Apply a 3 mm thick bead of urethane sealant around the perimeter of the liftgate opening..

3. Install the liftgate glass in the liftgate opening with the help of a second mechanic. Center the glass in the door window opening. Use suction cups to facilitate glass installation..

4. Check the liftgate glass seal for leaks by spraying it with water. If

a leak is found, dry the glass and apply additional sealant. If the leak cannot be eliminated, remove the glass and

repeat the entire installation procedure..

5. Connect the defroster wiring (if equipped)..

6. Inner cord of the glass seal.
