GENERAL INFORMATION

Tailgate Gas Struts

1. GAS STRUT.

2. HOOD SUPPORT.

3. CLIP.

4. BALL STUD OF HINGE ON TAILGATE.

5. BALL STUD OF HINGE ON BODY

Gas struts are designed to assist in lifting the tailgate.

The struts are secured to the tailgate and body with ball joints,

consisting of ball studs and sockets. Clips are used to secure the ball studs.

Remove or disconnect:

PROCEDURE.

1. Install a support under the open tailgate.

2. Remove the ball joint clips and the struts from the tailgate.

3. Remove the ball joint clips and the struts from the vehicle body.

Installation

PROCEDURE.

1. Install the gas struts to the vehicle body and secure the hinges with the clips.

2. Install the gas struts to the tailgate and secure the hinges with the clips.

3. Check that the gas struts hold the tailgate in the fully

open position.

Warning.

At low ambient temperatures (below –29 °C), the gas pressure in the strut decreases.

This reduces the force on the strut rod when holding the tailgate in the open position. Increasing the temperature

restores normal operation of the gas struts.
