Body Leak Diagnosis and Repair
GENERAL INFORMATION.
Successful repair of body leaks depends on correctly performing diagnosis to locate
faults and is achieved by adjusting the relative position of body elements and body equipment, as well as by using special repair sealants.
The first step is determining the conditions under which water enters the body. For example, water may enter the body when parked on a sloped surface, or may enter only the spare wheel compartment
etc. Once the leak zone is approximately
determined, the exact location of water entry can be quickly
determined using a water or air jet from a hose. If the leak point cannot be found, perform a full body leak test using
special equipment. During diagnosis and repair
of the body, it may be necessary to remove some trim panels and part of the
body equipment.
Warning.
It is necessary to accurately determine the point where water enters the body before
taking any measures to eliminate the fault. Otherwise, only a temporary effect will be obtained. Further diagnosis and repair may be
significantly complicated.
Inspection of the suspect area should continue until
all water entry paths into the body have been found.
Body Leak Test Using a Water Hose
During this test, an assistant must be inside the vehicle to monitor
water entry into the body.
Use a hose without a nozzle guide.
Start the test from the lower part of the suspect area and gradually
move upward.
