Fuel Pump Location

The fuel pump is located on the left side of the cylinder head. Inspection

PROCEDURE

1. To check pump output without removing it, disconnect the fuel supply hose to the carburetor and have an assistant crank the engine with the starter. Strong, regular spurts of fuel must come from the hose.

2. If the pump is removed, plug the outlet fitting with a plug (do not disconnect the inlet hose) and press the priming lever.

3. The lever must move smoothly in both directions, and fuel must spurt from the fitting.

Removal

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the hoses from the pump and plug them (removing the air filter may be required for access).

2. Unscrew the bolts and remove the pump together with the spacer.

Installation

PROCEDURE

1. Clean the mating surfaces, install a new spacer and the pump, and tighten the bolts.

2. Connect the hoses and secure them with clamps.
