Fuel and Exhaust System

Fuel Injection System

~1min read

GENERAL INFORMATION

All models with multi-point fuel injection use a combined fuel injection/ignition system (engine management system), often referred to as ECCS (Electronic Concentrated Control System).

For more detailed information on the ignition system, refer to Subsection 7.7.

The fuel injection system operates as follows: The fuel pump, installed in the fuel tank, delivers fuel from the fuel tank to the fuel rail through a filter mounted on the rear wall of the engine compartment.

Fuel system pressure is controlled by the fuel pressure regulator, which is installed on the side of the fuel rail.

The pressure regulator opens so that excess fuel can return to the fuel tank when fuel system pressure exceeds the optimum level.

Unleaded gasoline. The recommended fuel is specified in the Specifications section (refer to Subsection 6.3.2.1).

For all Nissan Sunny models, use gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 95 (research method).

For all models with a catalytic converter, use only unleaded gasoline.

Do not use leaded gasoline, as this may damage the catalytic converter.

On models without a catalytic converter, either type of fuel may be used.
