Fuel Injection System Components - Fuel Injector

GENERAL INFORMATION

WARNING: Refer to the precautions in sub-section 6.3.1 before starting work. If you believe the injector has failed, try cleaning it using a suitable injector cleaner, such as Holts Redex Injector Treatment. Removal and Installation

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the air filter cover (see Section 6.3.1.2).

3. Follow the injector wire and disconnect the connector.

4. Relieve the fuel system pressure (see sub-section 6.3.1.7).

5. Remove the two injector cap mounting screws, then remove the cap and gaskets.

6. Remove the injector from the throttle body and remove the sealing washer and O-rings.

WARNING: The injector may be tight in its bore. In this case, do not try to pull it out by the wires. Remove the upper part of the throttle body and push the injector out of its bore.

7. If the injector must be replaced, release its wires from the connector.

8. To do this, remove the retaining clip at the rear of the connector, then, using a small screwdriver, release the relevant wires and push their terminals out of the connector.

9. Note or mark the installation position of each wire in the connector and take care not to damage the wire terminals during removal.

10. If you do not want to disassemble the connector, the injector can be removed together with the idle speed up device and the auxiliary air valve.

11. Install in the reverse order of removal.

12. When installing, pay attention to the following points.

13. Install a new sealing washer and O-rings for the injector, as well as new gaskets for the injector cap.

14. When installing a new injector, insert the terminals of its wires into the corresponding slots in the connector.

15. Make sure they are securely locked in place, then install the retaining clip at the rear of the connector.

10. Make sure the wires are correctly positioned in the connector. If not, the injector will not operate correctly after the connector is connected.
