Air Injection System into Exhaust Manifold
Inspection
PROCEDURE
1. If the system is suspected to be faulty, disconnect the hoses from the air injection control solenoid valve and check that they are not clogged by blowing through them. The solenoid valve is located on the left side of the intake manifold, and the air injection valve is located on the left front suspension strut mount.
2. The solenoid valve can be checked as follows. If necessary, remove the valve following the instructions in subsection 6.4.2.6.1 for better access.

3. Connect a 12 V power supply to the solenoid valve as shown in the illustration for carburetor engine models with catalytic converter. Blow into port A. Air should flow through the valve and exit through port B. Blow into port B and check that air does not flow through the valve.
4. If the solenoid valve does not operate as expected, it is faulty and must be replaced.
5. To check the air injection valve, first remove it following the instructions in subsection 6.4.2.6.2, then check it as follows.

6. Blow into port B and check that the valve does not allow air to pass. Apply vacuum to port A and blow into port B. Air should flow through the valve and exit through port C. Blow into port C and check that air does not pass through the valve in either case, whether there is vacuum at port A or not.
7. If the valve does not operate as expected, it is faulty and must be replaced.
